“A charming book to be read and enjoyed together.”
The quirky, colourful and imaginative artwork adds to this story of Emily, sitting in the attic and reading her favourite book about the Littlest Squirrel and Black Bear when, suddenly, she finds herself walking into the story, meeting a wrinkly old magician who gives her a bag of magic.
The Littlest Squirrel has promised to stop greedy Black Bear eating all the food in the forest, leaving nothing for anyone else. There is an enchanting illustration of Black Bear stuffing his already full mouth with nuts and berries, so full, they all fall out. The animals laugh at Littlest Squirrel saying she is too small and Black Bear too big for her to stop him but when Squirrel throws an apple at Black Bear, hitting him on the nose, he is so frightened, he runs off to his den. So now there is enough food for everyone. A lovely illustration shows Black Bear lying in his den on a bed of orange, scarlet and gold leaves.
Now Emily wants to go back home and the bag of magic gets her there just in time to hear her Mum call her for dinner.
An adventure story showing that size isn't everything.

“Artwork that is rarely seen in children’s books today.”
What stood out to me most were the nostalgic illustrations! Artwork that is rarely seen in children’s books today. The artistry captures a timeless quality, giving adults something to marvel at while reading aloud. This makes the book more than just a children’s story; it’s also a piece of art that could easily sit on a coffee table, inviting anyone to pause and appreciate its imagery.
Alongside the stunning visuals, the story itself is engaging and vivid, with word descriptions that bring the adventure to life. It’s a book that feels as special to look at as it does to read, making it a treasure for families to share.
